Fabienne Lasserre
For Strawberry Moon, Fabienne Lasserre introduced ceramics as a new medium that grew out of her work with the West Village artist-run Ceramics Club. Dipping between figuration and abstraction, the material friction is inseparable from the contested definitions of gender and identity that run through Lasserre's practice.
Snake/Scribble/Squiggle 2 presents as improvisational and light, its hollowed ends alluding to instruments or tunnels, its curves conveying the forms of the title, and the array of glazes echoing Lasserre's signature patchwork surfaces of her sculptures.

Named by Algonquian tribes of the northeastern United States, the Strawberry Moon signals summer's wild strawberry harvest. The first full moon of June, it appears especially large as it rises on the horizon.
In this spirit of ripeness and transformation, Strawberry Moon brings together recent work by Christy Gast, Fabienne Lasserre, Halsey Rodman, and Molly Smith. Installed within a former dairy factory, the work ranges from large-scale sculptural installation to intimate watercolor paintings, exploring bodies, landscape, desire, and the scales of time.
Making a work that is not a painting and not a sculpture—that is a mix of the two, not easy to pinpoint—is akin to contesting the definitions of a female body or a male body or another body.
