In this abstract painting from Grace DeGennaro's Platonic Solids series, the artist uses deceptively simple forms to create an optically dynamic, layered composition. DeGennaro plays with transparency in multiple ways: the rich green background allows the texture of the linen ground to show through, and the central circle creates new forms where it overlaps the other two circles. Close inspection reveals that the lines outlining the central, geometric shape are composed of tiny, repeated gold and white dots.
